TopSealer® 100: a fast commissioning aliphatic polyurethane varnish

Improving existing products and innovating with the new ones we introduce to the market is our company's goal at Topciment®. We work very hard to achieve this objective. In this context, we expand our range of high-performance polyurethane varnishes for microcement coatings.

We introduce TopSealer® 100, an one-component aliphatic polyurethane varnish with 100% solids. It stands out for its stain-resistant properties, high traffic resistance (even vehicular traffic), and fast commissioning. We are confident that this high-value-added sealer will become a favorite among professional applicators.

Aliphatic polyurethane varnish suitable for pedestrian traffic within 24 hours

One of the most prominent virtues of TopSealer® 100, in comparison to other varnishes in the TopSealer® family, is its fast commissioning, without compromising its extraordinary durability. The waiting time for pedestrian traffic is just 24 hours, which facilitates and expedites the implementation of large-scale projects such as residential buildings, schools, or offices, among others.

In the case of heavy traffic, the waiting times are also accelerated to 5 days, a period shorter than many products in the market. Therefore, this aliphatic polyurethane varnish is ideal for sealing treatments in spaces like parking lots.

High chemical resistance and stain-resistant properties

The chemical performance of TopSealer® 100 is equally exceptional. Therefore, it is suitable for use on floors subject to liquid spills that need protection from possible infiltrations. Additionally, it has the advantage of high stain resistance, making it a very appealing sealer overall. This 100% solids and one component aliphatic polyurethane varnish is highly useful for spaces like cafes or hospitals.

Additional advantages of TopSealer® 100 aliphatic polyurethane varnish

So far, we have explored some essential features of TopSealer® 100, such as its fast commissioning and stain-resistant properties, as well as some of the most recommended application areas for this polyurethane varnish. However, its outstanding performance doesn't stop there. Let's delve into other additional aspects that make this single-component, 100% solids exceptional varnish.

Short waiting time between coats

Just as TopSealer® 100 ensures a fast commissioning, the drying time between coats is minimal compared to other sealers. You only need to wait between 4 and 6 hours between applications. In other words, in a single day, the floor or wall coating you're decorating will be fully sealed, and you can walk on it without any concerns after 24 hours. Isn't that fantastic?

Notable resistance to abrasion and compression

When it comes to surfaces with medium to high traffic, don't take any chances—use our aliphatic polyurethane varnish, TopSealer® 100, and benefit from its high mechanical resistance. Specifically, it offers a Taber abrasion resistance of 40.7 mg and a compression resistance of > 65 MPa.

The application process is streamlined due to the absence of a primer

Quick service and installation agility are characteristic features of our TopSealer® varnishes. In most cases, we recommend a double seal to enhance their resistance. However, in the case of this aliphatic polyurethane varnish, there's no need for a primer. This eliminates the need for a primer, speeding up the application process and reducing the time required.

Indoor or outdoor, the choice is yours

The aliphatic properties of TopSealer® 100 provide total resistance to sun exposure. Since it doesn't yellow, it can be used effectively on outdoor surfaces. Where will you use it?

Where to use the TopSealer® 100 aliphatic polyurethane varnish

Thanks to its outstanding performance, TopSealer® 100 can be used in a wide range of applications. In general, it is suitable for areas that require fast commissioning, are prone to liquid spills, experience considerable light and heavy traffic, and need added durability. In other words, it is ideal for continuous flooring, both in industrial and decorative settings, such as microcement and decorative self-leveling surfaces. The range of applications is extensive:

- Residential homes

- Parking lots and garages

- Hospitals and residences

- Offices and libraries

- Cafés and restaurants

- Supermarkets

- Schools

How to apply the TopSealer® 100 aliphatic polyurethane varnish

As mentioned earlier, applying TopSealer® 100 aliphatic polyurethane varnish is straightforward and quick. To do so, professionals should use a short-haired roller (microfiber) or, alternatively, a foam roller with a pore size of 0/1. This is because the consumption should be minimal due to it being a 100% solids sealer.

With that said, there are other considerations to keep in mind when using this polyurethane as a sealer for a microcement coating:

- Allow 24 to 48 hours of drying time after applying the chosen microcement system before using TopSealer® 100.

- The moisture content of the microcement should be less than 4% by mass, and the surface temperature should not exceed 21ºC.

- Do not apply on surfaces with temperatures below 10ºC or above 30ºC.

1. Prepare the floor or wall before applying the varnish

Ensure that the substrate is firm and well-bonded, free from grease, dust, poorly adhered materials, curing liquids, and dirt. Any defects should be addressed before using TopSealer® 100.

2. Apply two very thin coats of TopSealer® 100 varnish

Using one of the previously mentioned varnishes, apply two coats of the aliphatic polyurethane varnish, TopSealer® 100. Make sure the product is applied in very thin layers, as exceeding the appropriate thickness could lead to incorrect catalysis with the subsequent formation of unwanted bubbles and air entrapment.

Under no circumstances should you exceed 70 g/m2 per coat, which is the optimal performance to enjoy the aforementioned benefits. Importantly, there is no need for a primer, and therefore, PreSealer is not used.

3. Allow 4-6 hours of drying time between coats

To ensure proper protection by TopSealer® 100, it is essential to leave a 4-6 hour gap between coats. Finally, despite the extremely fast commissioning for this aliphatic polyurethane varnish (24 hours for pedestrian traffic and 5 days for heavy traffic), as manufacturers, we recommend allowing the sealer to cure for 7 days to achieve its maximum performance. Regarding sanding, it is not necessary, but if desired, a very gentle sanding of the first coat of TopSealer® 100 can be performed. What else do you need to know to give it a try?
