How to apply Natture lime-based micro mortar on

  1. 1

    Step 1. Preparing the substrate

Prepare the floor, ensuring that the substrate is consolidated, in good condition, clean and free of grease.

floors · Step 1. Preparing the substrate
  2. 2

    Step 2. Priming the floor

Each application requires a specific solution. Depending on the floor, use the corresponding primer: Primacem® PLUS for non-absorbent substrates, Primacem® ABS for absorbent substrates or Primapox® 100 Barrier to act as a barrier against capillary or vapour moisture.

floors · Step 2. Priming the floor
  3. 3

Step 3. Lay a flat and flexible fibreglass mesh

Depending on the condition of the substrate, structural reinforcement may be necessary. In these cases, before applying Natture lime-based micro mortar, lay Builtex flat and flexible fibreglass mesh to help prevent cracks and fissures.

floors · Step 3. Lay a flat and flexible fibreglass mesh
  4. 4

Step 4. Mix Natture lime-based micro mortar with Acricem resin

Pour part of the Acricem resin into a container and add the pigment until a homogeneous finish is achieved, checking the proportions in the pigment calculator. Gradually add Natture lime-based micro mortar and Acricem resin while mixing with a mechanical mixer at low speed for at least 4 minutes.

floors · Step 4. Mix Natture lime-based micro mortar with Acricem resin
  5. 5

Step 5. Apply 2 coats of Natture XL/L lime-based micro mortar

Depending on the substrate and the finish to be achieved, apply 2 coats of Natture XL or Natture L lime-based micro mortar with a metal trowel (3-4 hours drying time between coats). Sand each coat with 40 grit sandpaper.

floors · Step 5. Apply 2 coats of Natture XL/L lime-based micro mortar
  6. 6

Step 6A. Apply 1 coat of Natture XL/L lime-based micro mortar

For a more rustic finish, complete the floor decoration with one coat of our Natture XL or Natture L lime-based micro mortar. Use a metal trowel, allow it to dry for another 3–4 hours and sand gently with 40-grit sandpaper.

floors · Step 6A. Apply 1 coat of Natture XL/L lime-based micro mortar
  7. 7

Step 6B. Apply 2 coats of Natture M lime-based micro mortar

Alternatively, for a more natural and elegant finish, complete the floor decoration with two coats of Natture M lime-based micro mortar. This grain size must be applied with a flexible steel trowel. Allow 3–4 hours of drying time between coats and sand each one with 80-grit sandpaper, without applying excessive pressure.

floors · Step 6B. Apply 2 coats of Natture M lime-based micro mortar
  8. 8

Step 7. Seal the floor with 2 coats of Presealer and 2 coats of TopSealer®

Seal the floor once the curing time has been completed: between 24 and 48 hours after application. Apply two coats of Presealer primer, allowing 4 hours between coats, followed by two coats of any varnish from the TopSealer® range. In particular, we recommend TopSealer® WT Dragon, allowing 18–36 hours between coats, as it is our most advanced micro mortar sealer. We recommend sanding the first coat with 400-grit sandpaper.

Frequently asked questions · Documentation

1. What is lime-based micro mortar?

Lime-based micro mortar is a thin, continuous mineral coating (between 1 and 3 mm) made of lime, fine aggregates, and additives. It is used to renovate floors and walls without construction work, providing a natural, breathable, and highly durable finish for both indoor and outdoor use.

In systems such as Natture, this formulation is optimized to improve the workability and durability of the finish.

2. What are the advantages of lime-based micro mortar?

Lime-based micro mortar stands out for its balance of aesthetics, durability, and sustainability. Its main advantages include:

High breathability: it allows surfaces to "breathe", helping to prevent condensation and moisture-related issues.

It does not crack: unlike other coatings that are more prone to cracking over time, Natture lime-based micro mortar does not crack due to its minimal shrinkage.

Fully eco-friendly: lime-based micro mortar is an eco-friendly coating made from materials that are not harmful to the environment or to human or animal health.

High moisture resistance: it withstands very high levels of ambient humidity. For this reason, lime-based micro mortar is one of the most suitable coatings for renovating spaces such as bathrooms. In this sense, mold and other moisture-related problems do not develop.

Wide variety of finishes: the broad range of available colors, together with the possibility of reworking the product, allows for countless decorative finishes.

High durability: the lime in the micro mortar contributes to its long service life, allowing the coating to remain in excellent condition over time.

3. Where can lime-based micro mortar be applied

Lime-based micro mortar can be applied on floors and walls, both indoors and outdoors. It is compatible with substrates such as concrete, cement, ceramic, tile, marble, terrazzo, plaster or drywall, as long as they are properly prepared.

Natture makes it possible to renovate entire spaces-bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, furniture, or facades—without removing the existing substrate. It maintains strong mechanical and chemical resistance when exposed to the elements, so it can be applied outdoors without any issues.

4. Is it necessary to use a mesh to apply Natture lime-based micro mortar?

Natture is a lime-based micro mortar that is characterised by minimal shrinkage, thus ensuring the creation of durable coatings that do not crack. However, to guarantee optimal results, we recommend using mesh in the case of floors.

5. What is the most suitable primer for Natture lime-based micro mortar?

Natture allows you to choose between different adhesion promoters, according to the tastes and preferences of each client. In this sense, we recommend using Primacem ABS or Primacem Plus primers and, in the event that the substrate may be damp, we recommend Primapox 100 Barrier, as it blocks capillary humidity.

6. Does the substrate have to be sealed when using Natture lime-based micro mortar?

To increase the chemical resistance of Natture lime-based micro mortar, it is advisable to seal the substrate and protect it. To do this, apply two coats of Presealer followed by two coats of Topsealer WT.

7. Is it possible to obtain a colour different from those on the Natture lime-based micro mortar chart?

Natture includes 48 colours, however, if the customer wishes, it is possible to obtain different shades. Either by mixing pigments or by configuring new ones from our Arcocem basic colours.

8. Are all granulometries of Natture tadelakt microcement suitable for floors and walls?

No, not all granulometries are suitable for floors and walls. While Natture XL, L and M can be applied on both substrates, Natture S can only be applied on vertical surfaces.

9. Can water or resin be added to Natture lime-based micro mortar to make it more fluid?

The Natture technical data sheet specifies the mixing proportions of powder and resin that have been tested in our laboratories by our chemists. Depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment and substrate, the sample ratio may vary slightly. If you want or need to make the product more fluid, you can add a little resin without exceeding 2%.

10. What is the difference between microcement and lime-based micro mortar?

Microcement contains cement in its formula, so it is less sustainable and more polluting than lime-based micro mortar.

Microcement allows for a wide variety of finishes, but with an aesthetic that is less artisanal and textured than that of lime-based micro mortar.

Microcement may crack or fissure more easily if the material is not high quality, if mistakes are made during the application process, or if proper maintenance is not carried out. In contrast, lime-based micro mortar is much more resistant to abrasion and heavy foot traffic. Its minimal shrinkage gives it greater hardness and prevents cracking.

Microcement is a porous material and, if it is not sealed with a high-resistance varnish, water infiltration and moisture stains may appear. Lime-based micro mortar, on the other hand, offers high breathability and greater chemical resistance.
