Industrial mortar with electrosoldered corundum

Greater performance is offered by Stonecem® Industrial Compact, an industrial mortar that includes electrosoldered corundum in its formula for enhanced resistance.

This monolithic wearing layer, which also serves to protect the new concrete substrate, is perfect for outdoor areas with vehicle traffic and parking lots due to its high abrasion resistance. It is also ideal for industrial pavements such as warehouses, factories, and storage areas.

Available in 24 colors beyond the traditional gray, red, and green, it is used to create all types of industrial pavements, especially those of troweled concrete and polished concrete. In addition to electrosoldered corundum, this industrial mortar is composed of quartz aggregates, Portland cement, high-stability pigments, and additives.

Frequently asked questions about industrial mortar

Mortars are an essential element in the construction and decorative sector. Depending on the methodology used for their manufacturing, there are different types of mortars, with industrial mortar being one of the most requested.

Industrial mortar is a prefabricated construction material used in building and renovation projects. Generally, it is composed of a mix of cement, sand, and specific additives and is used to coat surfaces, join construction elements, or make repairs. The formulation of the mortar can vary depending on its use, offering high adhesion, durability, and resistance to adapt to different conditions and types of projects.

Our industrial mortars stand out for being versatile enough to create both polished concrete and troweled concrete finishes. Depending on the application system, the result will vary.

Troweled concrete

This type of concrete is achieved by smoothing its surface with a tool called a trowel machine. This process helps level and compact the concrete, creating a more uniform and robust surface ideal for industrial pavements, garages, or warehouses. The finish has a smooth yet slightly rough texture, enhancing the pavement's adhesion and durability.

Polished concrete

This type of concrete is obtained through a process of polishing and shining using specialized machinery. After pouring the concrete, it is sanded and polished multiple times to achieve a completely smooth, shiny, and aesthetically appealing surface. It is ideal for commercial interiors, residential spaces, or high-traffic areas as it provides excellent resistance and an elegant finish.

The curing time for industrial mortar depends on the specific characteristics of each manufacturer. In our case, both the Stonecem® Industrial and Stonecem® Industrial Compact wear layers require a total drying time of 48 to 72 hours.

The thickness of the wear layer is between 1 and 2 mm.

We do not have a "better or worse" industrial mortar, but rather different ones. The professional's choice will depend on the product's properties and the desired finish. In this regard, Stonecem® Industrial Compact offers higher mechanical resistance due to the inclusion of electrofused corundum in its formulation.

Purchase the industrial mortar that best suits the specific needs of the project and client in question.

The resistance of industrial mortar is beyond question. However, small cracks may occasionally appear in the industrial pavement. If this happens and the concrete is aesthetically affected, it is likely due to one of the following three application errors:

  1. Failure to compact the surface correctly.
  2. Not incorporating fiberglass, metal fibers, or reinforcement mesh to strengthen the base.
  3. Not executing the essential expansion joints and their corresponding cuts.

Our industrial mortar is not fireproof as such, but its fire reaction is classified as Class A1. This means it is combustible but not flammable.

One of the benefits of industrial mortar is that the decorative finish achieved is very economical compared to other systems. Approximately, the price per square meter ranges from $12 to $40 USD, including the product and labor.
